New Feature: Grab Theme Updates On The Fly

Updating your WordPress theme can be a huge pain. You have to track down the latest files, download them, back up your current install (if you’re smart), upload the new theme files and hope that nothing broke in the process. Good luck, buddy.

As theme users ourselves, we know this can really turn users off to a theme and potentially it’s provider. Theme updates should be seamless and cause no friction to your workflow. And now it is with Array.

We’ve just rolled out in-dashboard theme updates to Publisher, Typable and Pocket, and the rest of the themes will follow suit. Whenever there is an update available for your theme, there will be a notice at the top of the Themes page in your dashboard. Before updating, you can see a list of the changes and the files that were modified. When you’re ready to update, just click the update button and the theme will retrieve the latest files from Array.

This is just one of many steps we’re taking to make our themes even more user friendly and headache-free. Stay tuned, more awesomeness forthcoming.

    • Glad you like it! We’re still experimenting with it, so feel free to let us know if you run into any hiccups while updating.

  2. Just an FYI — I tried updating Pocket and the newly installed theme didn’t get named properly. I had to go in and rename the directory to “pocket” to get everything to line up properly.
